Women face some problems being able to use a stun gun effectively – or even safely to first understand and then work around the problem you simply have to accept that the fairer sex ( which includes me so no need to get riled up about the terminology) are usually smaller. We are lighter. We have less reach. We have less strength in our hands and upper body. Does anyone really need to argue about that?
A stun gun is a close quarter contact weapon. Anyone close enough to defense against with a stun gun is going to else be within range to fight you for it. You have two ways around that. The first is to void tipping your hand, lots of stun guns are small and easily concealed and others are designed to look like harmless objects such as cells phones. The cell phone stun gun is very popular lately. If you are smaller and possibly at a physical disadvantage- you can use a mental advantage to make up for it.
Remember, your good friend is the emergency disable strap. If the gun is taken away from you and strap disconnects it disables the stun gun. You’ve still lost it, but at least you didn’t put a weapon in your attacker’s hands too.

In 2007 in the US there was an average of 467 violent crimes for every 100,000 residents in the country. In spite of that, it seems that we are still more concerned with earning a living in this same precarious economy that some will tell you is directly responsible for the crime wave in the first place. We don’t think about violent crime until it inserts itself into our lives and by then, sadly, its too late to really think about it.
When you’re out at night walking down the street and violent crime enters your life you had better know what to do or you might become a statistic. I’m not an expert on this which is why when I find instruction like what is available on Street Sense – Smart Self Defense for Women, I want to tell everyone to stand up and take notice. What I find the most striking about the information on this video is just how much sense it all makes. When I watched if for the first time I couldn’t help but think, “Why didn’t I think of that?” but I didn’t because really, this is a world that is alien to me. And it’s alien to hundreds of thousands of other North American women, which is what makes us vulnerable.
For any dad looking to take a positive role in their daughter’s life, get this Self Defense DVD from Your Best Defense and help your child to defend herself.

Scheduled for market introduction in 2009, Shockwave is one of a few new less lethal stunning weapons that could easily be coming out of the test stages in their development and in the hands of police and the military in the near future.
Unlike the Tasers currently in use, Shockwave is capable of firing up to 6 projectiles a distance of 25 feet, a capability that police claim can be used to defensively create a perimeter around rioters and unruly mobs. This new weapon can also be fired into a crowd, taking “several targets” – also known as people- down simultaneously.
Putting this into perspective, the Advanced M-18L, which is the top of the line Taser product available to consumers fires two projectiles from a single cartridge, a maximum distance of 15 feet. Both projectiles need to make contact on the target.
Predictably there will be an outcry from individuals and human rights groups when this weapon is put into police hands and it will without any doubt fuel the controversy that surrounds the police use of taser technology on civilians.
In spite of the fact that we never seem to hear any stories about the abuse of Tasers for self defense in the hands of – as they call us – civilians, it’s a pretty safe bet you won’t be finding one of these on your store shelves in the foreseeable future.
This information was taken from an article published on Forbes.com called A License To Not Quite Kill
