Stun Guns

Walking alone can be frightening, especially if you must walk through a poorly lit area or at night.  Having some way to defend yourself is a must - especially if you live in an urban area.  While some people choose pepper spray or even a hand gun, stun guns are a great alternative that is growing in popularity.   There are certain legal restrictions on owning and using stun guns so some research into stun gun laws is necessary.

A stun gun works by using high voltage and a low amperage to disable an assailant for several minutes. It basically short circuits his electrical system so he is incapacitated, allowing you time to get away to safety.

While being sprayed with mace or pepper spray is painful, it does not truly disable the assailant.  He may still be able to attack you and do damage.  When hit with a stun gun, however, the assailant’s muscles are unable to function properly, making it near impossible for him to continue his attack.

While some people do carry hand guns for self defense, there is a downside to carrying a firearm.  First of all, if an attacker manages to disarm you, he now has a lethal weapon at his disposal to use against you.  Secondly, if you mistake a harmless person for an attacker, you could easily kill or cripple the person with a firearm.

Stun guns should not harm a healthy person if used correctly.  And, even though someone may be trying to mug you or steal your purse, you may not want to do permanent damage.  For these reasons, a non-lethal weapon, like a stun gun, is ideal.

When in a self defense situation, time is of the essence. You cannot hesitate to use your self defense product. If you are a person that is reluctant to use a potentially lethal weapon such as a hand gun, you may end up succumbing to an attacker.  Whichever self defense product you choose to carry, you need to make sure you can deploy it without hesitation and you need to use your stun gun properly.  For many people, this is much easier with a stun gun than with a firearm.

The necessity for self defense is a sad reality of modern life.  It would be nice if no one had to worry about potentially being attacked.  However, it is comforting to know that technology provides a such a wise option as stun guns for self defense.
